Sydney, Australia: Renee Welsh, CEO of tourism startup Booking Boss, took home the Entrepreneur of the Year award at the inaugural Women in Travel Awards on November 17.
The new awards hosted by Travel Weekly encourages the travel sector to recognise and celebrate the tourism industry’s tremendous breadth of female excellence.
The judges were looking for an entrepreneur who has backed themselves, believed in their business idea and refused to give up. Renee embodies these characteristics and was chosen for the award.
“I am honoured to accept the Entrepreneur of the Year Award,” says Renee Welsh, CEO of Booking Boss.
“Being at the helm of a booming startup isn’t easy. It doesn’t matter if you’re female or male. Anyone in the startup world knows there are tremendous highs and challenging lows. But we wouldn’t be anywhere without persistence and our incredible teams.
“At Booking Boss we’re focused on attracting and retaining the very best talent available in the market regardless of gender - 60% of our staff are women. Having an inclusive culture and a diverse staff allows us to deliver comprehensive and effective software and services to our clients and, it gives us a significant advantage over our competitors.”
What is encouraging is that Australia ranked second (in a tie with Canada) on the Dell Global Women Entrepreneur scorecard scoring 69/100, a good start but still plenty of room for improvement says Renee.
Equality is high on the agenda and the Women in Travel awards highlight and celebrate the amazing female talent working in the tourism industry.
